Research Interests:
Dr. Bunnell received his Ph.D. in Experimental Psychology from The Pennsylvania State University in 1983. He worked as a Research Scientist in the Sensory Communication Research Laboratory (later Center for Auditory and Speech Sciences) at Gallaudet University from 1983 until 1989 conducting research on the application of digital speech processing techniques to hearing enhancement, primarily for acoustic hearing aid users. In 1989 Dr. Bunnell became the director of the Speech Processing Laboratory within the Applied Science and Engineering Laboratories at the Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children where his research interests expanded to include text to speech synthesis and speech recognition. Since 1989, Dr. Bunnell has held a number of positions at AIDHC and is now Principal Scientist and Director of the Nemours Center for Pediatric Auditory and Speech Sciences as well as director of the Nemours Biomedical Research Bioinformatics Core facility. His current research interests in the area of hearing and speech sciences are related to biomedical and clinical applications of speech technology in both the diagnosis and remediation of hearing and speech disorders, particularly in pediatric patients. As Director of the bioinformatics core, Dr. Bunnell is interested in biostatistics, data mining, and in the development of software to facilitate and enhance collaboration among networks of scientists. Additionally, Dr. Bunnell is the editor (with Irene Vogel) of the journal Language and Speech, and a Fellow of the Acoustical Society of America.

May 5, 2010--More than 275 people from the health sciences research and education community turned out for the 2010 Delaware Health Sciences Alliance Conference on Tuesday, May 4, to share research and explore issues in health care.
UD and Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital to partner on bone disorder study
April 15, 2010--In search of a new treatment for the debilitating disease osteogenesis imperfecta (OI), a team of researchers from the University of Delaware and Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children is initiating a two-year study exploring the use of an FDA-approved vibration platform in children with OI.
