As a surgical oncologist with particular interest in prevention, detection and treatment of breast cancer, Dr. Dickson-Wittmer is very interested in exploring molecular markers, which can help to differentiate cancers which are indolent from those that are more aggressive. We hope that some day soon we will be able to personalize both treatment modalities for breast cancer, and even prevention and early detection strategies, rather than assuming a "one size fits all" position. To this end, we the Cancer Genome Atlas Project and work on a projects with the Cancer Registry to identify patient families with a high genetic risk of developing cancers at a young age so that these individuals can be appropriately and regularly screened.
